Neighborhood of Santa Cruz: Wi-Fi Location & Presence Analytics for Smart Destinations

The challenge: to offer the best tourism experience without neglecting sustainability.

WIFI presence & Location analytics to monitor capacity and people flows

At the hands of the Smart Tourism Office of the Seville City Office, we embarked on a project to provide a tool to plan and manage the flow of people in the Santa Cruz neighbourhood, an area with a very high density of visitors, in a more competitive way.

In this way, an improved tourist experience could be offered based on a detailed knowledge of their habits and preferences and a prediction of their behaviour.

At the same time, this harmonised the tourism model with the habitability of the area, avoiding conflicts arising from tourism interfering with the daily life of the citizens.

The deployed by Galgus

Key devices and technology to achieve the desired results

A series of Wi-Fi hotspots interconnected with our patented CHT technology were deployed and have a dual function:

  • To offer geolocated information, with an accuracy of more than 90% on the behaviour of tourists and citizens to municipal managers.
  • Providing public high-performance internet connectivity.

This accuracy is achieved thanks to our patented Galgus Fingerprint technology, which creates a unique and stable fingerprint for each device, regardless of whether it randomly and periodically changes its MAC address and even if several devices of exactly the same type enter the scanning area.

All of this is done anonymously and in compliance with data protection laws.

Results achieved

The most relevant data provided to the authorities by the Galgus technology

The application of our technology optimises the tourist experience, designing an offer adapted to their preferences.

It also makes it possible to detect and avoid possible overcrowding in real time. For example, by diverting visitors to less saturated areas or distributing them in a staggered manner.

In addition, we have taken a giant step towards improving the quality of life of residents and towards economic, social and environmental sustainability.

A project that reinforces Seville’s position as an international benchmark, being designated in 2023 as European Capital of Smart Tourism.
