Schools in Italy

In collaboration with our partner, Netoip, Galgus deployed a total of around 425 access points with our CHT and Location Analytics technology in 13 primary and secondary schools in different regions of Italy.

In doing so, we improve the access of students and teachers to the educational resources offered by new technologies and enable improved management and security of the schools themselves thanks to geolocation technology.

Challenge

Optimising connectivity in schools with obsolete networks

13 Italian schools, located in the regions of Marche (Osimo, Fano, Jesi, Civitanova Marche, Ascoli Piceno, Senigallia, Montefelcino), in Emilia Romagna (Nuovafeltria), Umbria (Assisi), Lazio (Rieti, Contigliano) and Abruzzo (L’Aquila), needed to renew and upgrade their local area networks, both wireless and wired.

To do so, they decided to take advantage of the support offered by the PON (National Operational Program) project, an initiative of the Italian Ministry of Education that aims to improve the quality and inclusion of education in the least developed regions of the country.

It offers European funds to finance initiatives and projects that promote the development of key competences, didactic innovation, social inclusion and the prevention of early school leaving.

Solution

In total, Galgus and Netoip deployed a total of 425 Wi-Fi access points incorporating our patented CHT (Cognitive Hotspot Technology) with Cloud Manager, which enables automatic network optimisation through continuous performance analysis using Artificial Intelligence. As a result, students, teachers and school staff can enjoy a seamless connected experience no matter how challenging the environment. For example, they can navigate and access multimedia educational resources smoothly, even when there are a high number of simultaneous requests in the same area. In addition, our deployment includes our Presence & Location Analytics technology. With it, school managers can know with an accuracy unique in the market (95%) and in real time, the capacity and behaviour of the users of each centre and its surroundings.

This is thanks to a solution that assigns a unique identifier or fingerprint to each device (Galgus Fingerprint), which avoids distortions in the count, such as those caused by the randomisation of MAC addresses and by identical devices being in the same area. In this way, they have information related to the use made by students and teachers of the centre. For example, there are the areas and times of peak and off-peak traffic, as well as the behaviour of the flow of people, especially in the time between classes and during break periods. This allows documented management decisions to be made that improve the overall educational experience. It also makes it possible to know the traffic in the vicinity of the school, which improves the safety of pupils and optimises traffic flow, especially at school start and finish times.
