Galgus raises 2.5 million euros to finance its growth and boost its international expansion

  • The funding round has been led by GED Capital (through its fund Conexo Ventures) and Mundi Ventures (through its fund Alma Mundi Fund II), with the additional participation of GoHub Ventures, Global Omnium’s corporate venturing arm, and Wayra, Telefonica’s open innovation hub.
  • The startup Galgus has developed a technological solution that optimizes the operation of WiFi networks by providing intelligence to their access points, increasing performance by 400%, and improving user experience.
  • Galgus’ patented solution is used daily by more than one million people worldwide when they connect their smart devices to the Internet while traveling by road, air, rail, or sea transportation, or while staying in a hotel or attending a congress, among others.

Galgus, the startup which specializes in research and development of wireless network technologies, has completed a round of investment led by GED Capital (through its Conexo Ventures fund) and Mundi Ventures, with the additional participation of GoHub Ventures, Global Omnium’s corporate venturing arm, and Wayra, Telefónica’s open innovation hub. With over seven years of corporate history, Galgus deep-tech aims to improve the user experience of a WiFi network.

Galgus has developed an innovative technology, Cognitive Hotspot™ Technology (CHT), which is capable of improving WiFi networks by providing intelligence to their different access points. Thanks to CHT these access points acquire the capacity to measure what is happening around them, share information, and thus optimize resources in real-time, improving performance by 400%.

With Galgus’s solution, network owners enjoy WiFis that are more reliable, greener, and of a better quality of service for their users and connected devices. At the same time, they also have many features that increase the value of their networks such as tracking devices, heat mapping generation, hacker detection, or cloud management, among others.

Galgus has been considered as the best digital infrastructure startup by EIT Digital in 2016 and recognized in 2018 by the European Commission as a company with high potential in its sector through the award of a ‘Phase II SME Instrument’ in 2018.

Its technology can be found in many different contexts. Besides passenger transport such as air, rail, sea, or bus, it is also deployed, to mention a few examples, in hotels of the Barceló chain or even in the Benito Villamarín stadium of the Real Betis football club, wherein 2019 it offered WiFi service to all the accredited press during the final of the King’s Cup between Valencia CF and FC Barcelona.

Moreover, it is worth mentioning the work it has been developing with Telefónica, its partner, in the rollout of WiFi4EU projects. This is a European Union initiative aimed at reducing the digital gap by helping to overcome connectivity problems in Spanish rural areas, where it provides service to some 250.000 people so far.

With the investments from GED Capital, Mundi Ventures, GoHub Ventures, and Wayra -Telefónica’s open innovation hub-, Galgus has raised the funds and assistance required to finance its growth and boost its international expansion.

According to its CEO and Co-Founder, Jose Gonzalez: “thanks to the great work developed by the Galgus team during all these years, we have achieved a very advanced and technologically disruptive system that has been validated by the market. Now, with the capital provided by our investors, we will be able to take on new opportunities, scale up the business and grow this project that we started around seven years ago”.
